This mountain biking tour is a sustained one and enables you to explore the beautiful areas of Kinnaur and Spiti, which is situated on the Indo-Tibetan border. Beginning in Shimla, we will press on to the Sutlej Valley of Kinnaur, which captivates the domineering mount Kinner Kailash. On this journey we will visit various monasteries and temples, accompanied by beautiful rivers and dense forests. We end our mountain biking tour in Manali, before crossing a couple of high passes, the Kunzum Pass being the highest point of our tour (4700 m / 15,419 ft.). Then a bus journey to Delhi will bring us to the end of our journey.
Day 1
Arrival in Delhi
Guests will be received at the airport followed by a transfer to a hotel, where you will be staying overnight.
Day 2
Journey from Delhi to Shimla
Travelling Time: 10 hours
Altitude: 1900 m / 6,233 ft.
Day 3
Around Shimla
After breakfast we will walk up the Jhaku Hill to visit the Hanuman Temple (monkey God museum and advance study hall). You will then head back to the hotel for lunch, followed by a free afternoon to visit the mall. Overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 4
MTB 1 – Shimla -Narkandha
Travelling Distance: 64 km
Altitude: 2708 m / 8,884 ft.
It will be a steep but flat road, as you head on your first biking tour to Shimla. The road goes through tiny villages, dense forests and Kufri; winter paradise for skiers. It is only a few kilometres after Kufri, that you will reach in Narkhandha, where you will be staying overnight in a hotel.
Day 5
MTB 2 – Narkandha– Rampur
Travelling Distance: 85 km
It is a long descent to the valley of Sutlej, where the road will become flat until Rampur; former Himalayan Kingdom of Rampur Busheher. It offers a rare insight into customs, relations, art and architecture of its people. It is one of the biggest commercial towns with the Himachal Pradesh region and it is famous for the Levi Mela (fair), which is held in November. On this event, traders from Lahaul/Spiti and Kinnaur participate. Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 6
MTB 3 – Rampur – Sarahan
Travelling Distance: 60 km
Altitude: 1920 m / 6,299 ft.
You will continue onto Sarahan – summer capital of Rampur Busheher. The Bhimakali Temple is a big attraction; you can also get magnificent views of the ShirKhand peaks. This temple is about 1500 years old. Overnight stay in camp or hotel.
Day 7
MTB 4 – Sarahan – Sangla
Travelling Distance: 90 km
Altitude: 2680 m / 8,792 ft.
You will descend on to the main road, to ride further on to Sangla, also called the Baspa Valley. It is the most beautiful valley of Kinnaur; dominated by Kamru Fort, where you can visit and the village. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 8
MTB 5 – Chhitkul – Back to Sangla
Travelling Distance: 26 km
Full day visit until you reach the last village of the valley, en route visiting Rakchham and other villages. You will return back to Sangla in the evening. Overnight stay in camp or hotel.
Day 9
MTB 6 – Sangla – Jangi
Travelling Distance: 59 km
As you leave the Baspa Valley, you will go back the same way until you reach Katchham, again following the Sutlej Valley towards the north. You will then reach the passport and inner line permit that will be checked at the post before reaching the campsite.
Day 10
MTB 7 – Jangi – Nako
Travelling Distance: 74 km
Altitude: 2950 m / 9,678 ft.
You will be riding towards Spiti via Khab, where the Satlej joins in to the Spiti River. Then an uphill ride to Nako – the most charming village offers scenic views all around. To the north of the village is a monastic complex of four large temples that belong to the Drugpa order, Overnight stay on a camp.
Day 11
MTB 8 – Nako – Tabo
Travelling Distance: 67 km
Altitude: 3050 m / 10,006 ft.
Riding through several villages, until reaching at Tabo Monastery which was founded in 996 AD. It is often called the Ajanta of Himalayas; famous for its exquisite frescoes and Stuco statues. In trans Himalayas Buddhism, Tabo sanctity is next only to Tibet's TholingGompa. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 12
MTB 9 – Tabo – Shichling
Travelling Distance: 25 km
Altitude: 3100 m / 10,170 ft.
After an hour of bike riding, you will have reached in Schichling, where we will make camp. Later, you will ride uphill to the road that leads to Dhankar. It is the ancient capital of Spiti, where you can visit the Gompa, before descending back 8 km until you reach the campsite.
Day 13
MTB 10 -Schichling – Kaza
Travelling Distance: 29 km
The road will take you along the Spiti River until you reach in Kaza, where we stay overnight in hotel. Later in the day, you we will visit the sub-divisional headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti and explore the tiny town and its monastery. Our campsite will be outside of main Kaza, either at Shego or Rangrik.
Day 14
MTB 11 – Kaza – Key and Kibber
Travelling Distance: 23 km
Altitude: 4200 m / 13,779 ft.
We will leave to visit the famous KyeGompa that is perched high on a pyramid-like mountain, which belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Kibber, one of the highest permanent inhabited villages, is located in a semi bowl-shaped landscape. We will visit a small Gompa before returning to the camp near Kaza.
Day 15
MTB 12 – Rangrik – Takscha
Travelling Distance: 53 km
It is an easy road to Takscha as you pass htrough several villages of Spiti Valley. The last village of the valley is Lossar, where you can visit the Gompa and village. Later, it will be a short ride to the beautiful campsite where hers of Yak can be seen grazing. Overnight stay on camp.
Day 16
MTB 13 –Takscha - Chhatru over Kunzum La
Travelling Distance: 67 km
It is a 9 km ride uphill to reach the Kunzum Pass (4700 m / 15,419 ft.) which offers an extensive view of the mountains. A small temple along the pass is dedicated to the Goddess Kunzum Devi. Then you will descend to Batal and further onto the Chandra Valley, that will take you to Chhatru. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 17
MTB 14 – Chhatru – Marhi over Rohtang Pass
Travelling Distance: 42 km
The road will be rough to Gramphu that joins the main highway of Manali – Leh. It is then an uphill ride to the Rohtang Pass (3950 m / 12,959 ft.) which is the gateway between Lahaul/ Spiti and Kullu. Then you will have reached in the lush green Valley of the Gods (Kullu/Manali). Then a descent by a snake-curved road through pastures of wild flowers. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 18
MTB 15 – Marhi – Manali
Travelling Distance: 35 km
After some time, you will enter a tree line, with a long descent through forests of silver Oak, Fir, Popular and several waterfalls that will accompany you until Manali. Overnight stay in a hotel.
Day19
MTB 16 –Exploring Manali
You will be visiting the ancient Hindu temples, Naggar Castle and Roerich Art Gallery, as well as a stroll around the village. Evening time will be spent heading back to hotel in Manali, where you will spend the night.
Day 20
Journey from Manali – Delhi (Volvo Coach)
Travelling Distance: 570 km
Travelling Time: 14 hours
After having a complete day sight seen around Manali. We will take Overnight Volvo Coach to Delhi. You will have your dinner along the way. Overnight will be in the Coach.
Day 21
Flight Departure: Delhi
Morning time you will reach in Delhi where you will be transferred to the Indira Gandhi International Airport where you will depart to your onward destination.
